What happens next?

A lot has been learned from the NHS-Galleri trial about how well the blood test works for cancer screening in the NHS. A lot of other information has been learned about cancer biology and multi-cancer screening.

Thank you for taking part in the NHS-Galleri trial. The trial and everything that is being learned from it would not be possible without your support.

More results to come

These results are the first results from the NHS-Galleri trial. These results have been shared with researchers at a scientific conference in May 2026. They will also be published in a scientific journal in 2026.

The researchers will continue to analyse the data from the trial over the coming months and years. More results will be reported in the future.

The researchers are going to look again in 2027 at if the test helped find cancer earlier. This will use an extra 12 months of data. The trial team is already collecting this data and will continue to do so. Looking at more data over time will help researchers understand the results better.

Other things the researchers will look at in the future are

  • If people who had a cancer signal detected result feel anxious
  • The impact of using the test on NHS services
  • Whether the test is good value for money.

In a few years time, the researchers will also look at whether using the test might help reduce cancer deaths.

Further trial results will be shared publicly, such as in a scientific journal, press release or on the trial website.
